Gabrielle deVeber, M.D.

Dr. Gabrielle deVeber is a pediatric neurologist and scientist at the Hospital for Sick Children Research Institute who was trained by Dr. Andrew in thrombosis and focused her career on cerebral thrombosis causing stroke in children. She has lead the field of pediatric stroke research and clinical practice guidelines and initiated the Canadian Pediatric Stroke Registry in 1992-2003 with Dr. Andrew’s mentorship and the International Pediatric Stroke Study in 2003 – current. These networks have enrolled thousands of newborns and children with stroke and built a base from which research in this field has flourished.
Dr. deVeber worked alongside Dr. Andrew from 1995 – 2001 in the 1800NOCLOTS service where she fielded management questions from hundreds of callers about management of infants and children with thrombosis involving the brain: arterial ischemic stroke and sinovenous thrombosis. Her work with Dr. Andrew resulted in a published manuscript describing this experience: “Kuhle S, Mitchell L, Andrew M, Chan AK, Massicotte P, Adams M, deVeber G. Urgent clinical challenges in children with ischemic stroke: analysis of 1065 patients from the 1-800-NO-CLOTS pediatric stroke telephone consultation service. Stroke. 2006 Jan; 37(1): 116-22.”
